More and more governments are agreeing to share their data with the public in a spirit of openness and transparency. The executive director of the organization Open North/Nord Ouvert, Jean-Noé Landry, is one of those helping the various levels of government make this democratic leap. For the eighth Matinées numériques, he will talk with Élodie Gagnon about good open-governance practices, and about the risks versus the opportunities that arise from opening up data.

Matinées numériques Montréal is a series of monthly morning conversations exploring the intersections between digital technology and society. The talks are free and open to all. Coffee and pastries are provided. ☕🥐 Matinées numériques Montréal is hosted by Élodie Gagnon and organized by Espaces temps.

About Jean-Noé Landry

Jean-Noé Landry is a social entrepreneur and executive director of NordOuvert, the leading non-profit organization in Canada specializing in open governance and civic tech. He co-founded the citizen initiatives MontréalOuvert and QuébecOuvert, the social-innovation incubator Connexité-MTL, and more recently Le pôle en données massives en culture. Before settling in Montréal, Jean-Noé worked for about a dozen years for international organizations supporting countries in democratic transition. He studied philosophy.

About Élodie Gagnon

Élodie Gagnon often speaks into a microphone to introduce new ideas and the people who embody them: emerging culture on Bande à part, the leaders of the new generations on Génératrice (Radio-Canada) and the talent of women creators with the association Femmes du cinéma, de la télévision et des médias numériques (FCTMN) as well as at the NFB. She enjoys helping launch “firsts” such as the cultural makethon Museomix in Quebec museums, the social-innovation platform PISTE for the L’Itinéraire group, or new stages at C2 Montréal (Le Garage, L’Aquarium). She handles chaos, chance and instinct well.
