Buckython: Reinventing Buckminster Fuller’s Biosphere in 48 Hours

We see it almost every day, and its ingenuity has been talked about around the world. Its dome is a memory of the metropolis of the past,already an innovative city in 1967. How can the Biosphere, Montréal’s emblematic symbol, be reinvented in less than 48 hours? A hackathon on the future of Buckminster Fuller’s Geoscope invites participants to take up the challenge. Organized as part of Printemps numérique, the Buckython brings together creators, developers, designers, artists and thinkers around Fuller’s legacy and the future of the Biosphere. The project is presented with the Société des arts technologiques, Maison Notman and the Buckminster Fuller Institute. Participants will work

in

teams to imagine new uses, interfaces and experiences inspired by the geodesic dome and by Fuller’s thinking about design, systems and the planet. The event is also a way to connect the history of Expo 67 with today’s digital creativity. The Biosphere remains one of Montréal’s strongest architectural symbols, and the Buckython proposes to look at it not as a monument frozen in time, but as a platform for future ideas.
