About this event

Creating algorithmic artworks using JavaScript and machine learning

Kids Code Jeunesse, the Conseil des arts du Canada and the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal invite young artists from across Canada to create with code!

In these workshops, co-facilitated by Canadian artists, students will be introduced to the basics of algorithmic art through a set of simple programming exercises led by an experienced instructor. Students will modify code to discover how to use their voice as an innovative way to interact with a generative artwork. Students will be introduced to p5.js, a JavaScript programming library for artists, and to ml5.js, a machine-learning programming library, so that emerging algorithmic artists can continue creating after the session.

This workshop will include a mini-lecture by Canadian artist, Erin Gee, who will discuss AI, algorithmic intervention, data and media in the context of her artistic practice.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is intended for teens aged 13 to 17.

Previous programming experience is not required, but it is an asset, especially with JavaScript or p5.js.
