𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

With Digi-DEA, participants will explore the creative possibilities of analog electronics and learn to create their first circuits! This workshop, delivered in two four-hour sessions, will provide the basic knowledge needed to develop electronic art projects using the Tinkercad online circuit simulator. An easy-to-use computer design program, the Tinkercad circuit simulator is designed to help with the design and creation of electronic circuits and interactive projects.

This workshop will teach participants how to create an analog circuit, build a circuit with an integrated circuit and make a more complex circuit involving two 555 timer circuits. The instructor will briefly discuss the history of the relationship between art and technology, cultural perceptions of electronic art, and provide an introduction to microcontrollers and Arduino. At the end of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with the facilitator about personal project ideas.

𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲, a multimedia artist, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Ottawa and is currently completing a master’s degree in sculpture at Concordia University. His artistic research focuses on how technology has altered the most organic aspects of human society (spirituality, creativity, identity) and on what it leaves behind. He has received several awards and scholarships for his research, including the Dale and Nick Tedeschi Studio Arts Fellowship and the FRQSC Graduate Scholarship.

Specializing in sculpture and digital art, Lapointe develops a practice that creates hybrid structures combining physical and virtual materiality. Electronics are situated in technologically stripped-down environments where material objects recall digital processes. His sculptures act as artifacts from futures yet to come, sending messages from the virtual void. Drawing on his university training, his work often makes pointed comments on the artistic practices that have historically had a direct impact on his own approach.
