Radio Arbre invites you to listen to the ideas, concerns and dreams of the youth to imagine the city of tomorrow.
Radio Arbre is an installation and a participatory web radio created by Daily tous les jours, allowing people to listen to the testimonials of hundreds of Montréal children collected during the operation Tours de tables, a project of the Maison de l’innovation sociale and its partners as part of Montréal’s 375th anniversary.
RADIO ARBRE, the INSTALLATION
From March 17 to May 7, 2018, the device Radio Arbre is installed temporarily to the Space Young people of the Large Bibliothèque (BAnQ), before moving in of the parks Montréal to the arrival of the warmer days of been. Radio Arbre is inspired of an tradition African called «the tree to palaver», that made of the tree a point of gathering in the communities where share its stories. The result is a place of gathering, pas in the form of tree, but to mi-chemin between a platform and a station of radio giant. A place in bring together in the space public, listen the voices youth Montréal and discuss on the stories heard. A screen on the device allows to the public of lire in simultaneously the contributions broadcast to the air, and a map interactive of Montréal indique the origin, the name and the age of the child whose on entend the testimony in live.

In parallel of the installation, all the stories of Radio Arbre, told by the Tree, are available in continuously on radioarbre.com. On y find the map interactive of Montréal displayed on the installation and the possibility of browse in its content: a way of visit the city thanks to the stories that the composent, all in taking the pulse of the population in everyone of the boroughs. A section Contribute invites also of others youth Montréal to parthereper to their turn to the project.
THAT IS the TREE?
As its name the indique, Radio Arbre is hosted by tree. TO mi-chemin between humanist robot and futuristic tree, it is the editor in chief of this radio local. 24h/24 and 7j/7, it shares the contributions of the children with devotion, humour and sincerity. In create this character, Daily tous les jours is inspired of programs of radio (human) and of the language of journalistic. True to the voices of the children, the Tree reads the transcripts of the Tours de tables that have been kept intact, in let the public hear a reproduction of the words of the children, without rewriting or adaptation.
THE CONTENT
325 testimonials are currently broadcast to the air of Radio Arbre, spread in 14 programs thematic hosted by the Tree, such as The Column of the good neighbours, Letters to the fruit and vegetables, the Department of the future or encore the Mail of the heart. Radio Arbre includes also the operations of listening conducted by the Foundation of the Grand Montréal in the report Vital signs vital of the children of the Grand Montréal.
This project is a creation of DAILY TOUS LES JOURS, to the initiative of the MAISON OF the INNOVATION SOCIAL, in collaboration with the FOUNDATION OF THE GRAND MONTRÉAL, the FOUNDATION MCCONNELL, the SOCIETY OF THE CÉLÉBRATIONS OF THE 375TH ANNIVERSARY OF MONTRÉAL, the CHOIX OF THE PRÉSIDENT, the POLICY OF the CHILD OF THE CITY OF MONTRÉAL and WORKSHOP 10.
