About this event
Are we all affected by artificial intelligence?
How can we think about new technologies from a social justice perspective?
Artificial intelligence, or AI, seems shrouded in mystery and gives the impression of being a technology far removed from our everyday lives. Yet AI is much closer to us than we might think. It is widely used in fields ranging from medicine to police forces and entertainment. This area of research, long confined to the worlds of science and computer science, is being transformed by the perspective of the humanities and social sciences. What we thought were simple mathematical formulas actually has an impact on our society at many levels.
She will present the biases artificial intelligence can have on marginalized populations and how to envision new technologies in the service of social justice.
Audience: General public and employees or volunteers of libraries and community organizations.
