Digital Divide Among Young Quebecers: New Study Unveiled
Montréal, May 25, 2020 — The COVID-19 pandemic has required thousandsof young
people to pursue education at a distance and to adapt to new
remote work, communication andlearning environments. These changes have also highlighted inequalities in access
to digital tools and skills. Printemps numérique
unveiled
produced
- as part of the
- Jeunesse QC
- 2030 project.
- The research
- examines how young
- people use
- digital technology, what
barriers
- they face and how
- socio-economic, cultural and
- territorial factors can
- influence digital
- literacy. It
- underlines the importance of
supporting
- youth with access,
- training and
- critical understanding of digital tools.
- The study calls
- for action to ensure
equal
- opportunity in the digital transition,
- especially for young people
- who are
- far from major centres or
- who have
- limited access to equipment,
mentorship.
Through Jeunesse QC 2030 and the DigitalCafés, Printempsnumérique continues to work with schools, community organizations and partners to
create
spaces for dialogue, learning and empowerment around
digital
culture.
