Mashup: When Startups Get Involved
Montréal has just been named the most intelligent community in the world by the Intelligent Community Forum. The smart city, and its international influence, have been built in part thanks to the many startups that are growing rapidly here and developing ideas that may transform entire industries. Their secret is to dare to be bold and forget conventions. Montréal
has between 1,800 and 2,600
startups; the average age
of founders is 32; and 22% of Montréal
startups are founded by women, according to Techno Montréal. The
Quartier de l’Innovation
organizes Mashup. Inspired by the format of the show Dans l’oeil du dragon, startups and SMEs are identified to respond to challenges submitted by large organizations. They then have three minutes to present their product to a representative in front of an audience. Damien Silès, director of the Quartier de l’Innovation, stresses that the economic role of startups is very important for the metropolis. Mashup is a showcase that helps make them known and allows industry and the public to discover what they are working on. The

place on June 29. The National Film Board ofCanada will hear proposals from startups around artificial intelligence and interaction with audiences. The startups will have to convince decision-makers by presenting their best technological product. It is a golden business-development opportunity. Montréal is Canada’s leading university city and the second in North America, recalls Damien Silès. It is a real hive for the young generation that wants to go into business. Let us keep these creative people here and benefit from this extraordinary strength. Mashup NFB, June 29 at 5:45 p.m. A networking cocktail will follow the event.
