Music Legacy Project: An Immersive Mystical Journey

The Société des arts technologiques, an essential venue for creative and digital Montréal, recently unveiled its Spring-Summer 2017 program. Among the most anticipated shows of the new season, the immersive musical performance MusicLegacy Project, presented by La Hacienda

Creative, pushes immersion even further. For 45 minutes, comfortably seated in the dome and surrounded by a mystical atmosphere, audiences travel through lesser-known worlds of traditional Latin American

and South American cultures. By candlelight and to the sound of traditional instruments, this interactive multidisciplinary work feels more like a ceremony

bringing together

musicians, dancers, spectators and new technologies. The strength of Brian d’Oliveira’s show lies in its innovative combination of disciplines. Music Legacy Project stages four musicians performing mystical and sacred rhythms from the region, along with a modern dance performance by Inka Strobl, all in a 360-degree immersive environment. Projections of sacred elements and charismatic figures follow one another and contribute to the viewer’s escape. The visual, physical and sound dimensions complement each other throughout the performance. The musicality of the instruments gives rhythm to the physical performance and to the visuals

projected on the dome, creating

a complete immersive experience. The project also surprises through its innovative alliance between tradition and technology, two worlds often seen as opposites. The projections pay tribute to contemporary Indigenous cultures and pre-Hispanic cultures, giving the four elements of nature,

water, earth, air and fire, a central place. Technology magnifies this heritage and lifts the veil on past times by bringing them into the present. Music Legacy Project

creates both fascination and emotion, an artistic discovery with no sense of déjà vu that makes us want to see more. Performances at the SAT have now ended. Next on the program: Électro-Acrylique and Orbits, from May 4 to 13.
