Pillow Talk: Sweet Dreams
Until April 24, Centaur Theatre presented the new work by Montréal company Dulcinea Langfelder & Co as a world premiere. Built around the fascinating world of dreams, Pillow Talk offers a look back at the highlights of a show that is as funny as it is offbeat. New York choreographer Dulcinea Langfelder, who has lived in Montréal for 15 years, built her new piece from notes, recordings and fragments of dreams collected over several years. Part philosophical approach and part introspective journey, Pillow Talk explores the universal and infinite theme of dreams through a multimedia installation. Alone on stage with only her faithful pillow as a prop, Dulcinea speaks about her dreams using a whispered voice-over, as if to lull us. Blending with the video projected behind her on a giant screen, she plays with moods and elements to take us deep into her subconscious and her bubbling brain. The interaction between actress and video lies at the centre of the stage design and contributes to an absurd, offbeat staging. Borrowing from mime and cinema, the piece lets us feel every emotional state: happiness, sadness, melancholy and more.

Its childlike, handmade aesthetic gives the work a playful and amusing quality. Despite a few longueurs, Pillow Talk approaches a mysterious and exciting subject from a new angle. It is a discovery for all gentle dreamers who, like Dulcinea, want to keep dreaming after the alarm rings.
