A forthcoming
research projectby Printemps numérique will be published
as awhite paper on women in tech. Through Jeunesse QC 2030, Printemps numérique works toestablish
equal opportunity for young people aged 13to 29 by supporting the development of digital literacy
skills. The
Digital Cafés deployed in schools and thirdplaces allowyouth to explore digital possibilities
and learn about citizenship issues in the digital age. The project also includes research to better understand
young people’s digital uses, particularly among young women, and to
prevent
the digital divide. A first study on culture and
digital inequality among youth in Québec was published
in 2020 by Amina Yagoubi. The next phase focuses on young women in tech. Women
remain underrepresented in the technology sector, andearlierresearch identified a strong
gendered
- digital divide.
- Interviews with women
- working or studying
- in STEM fields explore
- their relationship
- to technology, what attracts them
to these areas and how creativity, leadership and empowerment can support
inclusion.
The white paper also presents the EL’TECH model, which addresses empowerment, leadership, technology, entrepreneurship,
creativity
and skills, and examines the role of digital mediation organizations in helping girls increase
digital
literacy. While awaiting
publication,
audiences canwatch Printempsnumérique videos featuring the atypical paths ofwomen
