Symposium IX - Birth of a Digital Alphabet

Through a series of workshops and immersive experiences, the^3rd edition of the IX Symposium by the Société des arts technologiques reflects this year on the state of creation in sound perspectives. The Satosphère, an essential Montréal landmark for any self-respecting digital-art enthusiast, hosts the event. On the IX program are two performances combining 3D creation and sound research: OO-Ocular Oscillation,the result of joint work by three Québecers, Alain Thibault, Patrick Trudeau and Jean-Sébastien Baillat, and Sig.Int by French artist Julien Bayle. The same observation emerges from both performances: total immersion in another dimension and a visual industry in constant evolution. Cradled in an ocean of new images, I discover works of remarkable intensity.OO-Ocular Oscillation, an astonishing patchwork of psychedelic textures, abolishes perspective and plays on retinal persistence. Here, Julien Bayle merges visual art, musical composition and a physical approach to sound art. Data visualization, a new reality of our century, is central to his work. Is a new digital writing being born? That is the question I ask myself as I leave the two performances. Between technological challenges and futuristic aspirations, today’s digital artists are gradually becoming the painters of tomorrow. They constantly reinvent our space-time and manage to model our digital identity with genius. Definitely worth discovering.
